Our project coordinator, Dr. Franz Georg Hey, has produced an exciting video that captures the Advanced Cusp Field Thruster (ACFT) firing with iodine.
In this case, the iodine was used as a propellant and as we can clearly observe it produces a characteristic yellowish plasma discharge. The video features two different exposure times and zoom levels in order to enable a clearer visibility of the plasma in the discharge chamber (upper part) and the external beam of the thruster. The iodine plasma discharge appears to be brighter than the Xenon discharge.
